Grout coloring, also known as “color sealing” is an epoxy-based, colored sealant that is applied directly on top of grout. Its intended purpose is to revitalize grout to its original look. Grout coloring has a lot of great uses such as restoring grout to new again, altering grout’s original color, and protecting grout from future staining or discoloration. We believe its greatest feature is that it is epoxy-based, so it won’t allow dirt to stick or cling to it. Cleaning grout that’s been colored is a breeze!
Grout coloring is recommended for situations where grout cannot be cleaned further or there has been a lot of heavy staining and discoloration. It’s best to begin with tile and grout cleaning and assessing the condition post-cleaning. If your grout has been installed improperly or is brittle, you may benefit from grout coloring since it makes grout non-porous and hydrophobic. A technician will skillfully assess your floor and find out if your grout could benefit from a color seal.
Our grout coloring process starts with a comprehensive preparation. With the proper prior prep work, grout coloring can last anywhere between 6-12 years! Our first step is cleaning grout with either an alkaline or acid-cleaning solution. Our objective is to clean the grout completely of any dirt or debris, using a combination of chemicals while scrubbing the grout lines thoroughly. During the process, we open the pores of the grout so the coloring can seep beneath the surface, staining the grout a new color. The last step of the cleaning is extracting excess solution, dirt, and debris. From there we can apply the grout coloring by hand with the appropriate applicator.
The colorant we use is epoxy-based and is extremely durable. On average grout coloring lasts anywhere from 8 to 12 years. There are exceptions.
We always recommend matching the color of the grout to the color of the existing tile. This gives your floor an amazing, seamless look and helps make the grout lines more visible. At the end of the day, we are willing to use whatever color of your choice.
If you are interested in keeping your existing color, we can easily match the color!
The time it takes to complete the process is completely dependent on the amount of square footage, the size of the tile, and the pattern of the tile.
For example, a 1000 square-foot home, with a 18″x18″ tile and normal pattern would take two technicians 4-6 hours to complete.

AZ Tile Grout is not responsible for cracked grout or missing grout due to improper installation. Cleaning with high pressure can remove grout, color sealers and damage some satin-finished natural stones in rare instances. We do our absolute best to prevent this from ever happening.
